July 18, 1988 — Jarrod Eberts and Mark Makovec combine on a two-hitter to lead Tamaqua to an 8-1 victory over Valley West during a winner’s bracket contest in the District 18 11-12 Little League tournament. Eberts pitches the first five innings, allowing the two hits and four walks while striking out six. Makovec tosses the final frame, striking out the side in order. Makovec also singles in the first inning and eventually scores on a passed ball, but the winners break the game open with a four-run second — with three of those runs scoring on a bases-loaded double by R.J. Finley. Tamaqua seals the victory, receiving back-to-back solo homers in the sixth from Andy Yarnell and Jason Schellhammer.
