Pa. reports intermittent 9-1-1 outage
Pennsylvania was experiencing a statewide intermittent 9-1-1 outage that lingered through Friday evening.
On Friday afternoon, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency sent an emergency alert to advise people to call their local emergency center on nonemergency lines if they cannot reach them by dialing 9-1-1.
To find those numbers, the state agency suggested people visit their county’s social media and websites.
“911 lines are currently not operating correctly, and the 911 center is not receiving the calls properly,” the Carbon County Emergency Management Agency said in a social media post.
The Carbon agency assured residents that its 911 center is still functioning as normal — but 911 lines are not properly working.
“Please bear with the dispatchers as they are not aware if you have an emergency,” according to the Carbon EMA.
Those experiencing an emergency in Carbon County should call the nonemergency lines at 570-325-9111. If they cannot complete the call, they are advised to call their local fire company. They may also visit their local firehouse.
According to a press release from the Monroe County Public Safety Center, “Teams are actively working to resolve the issue and restore full 9-1-1 service functionality as quickly as possible.”
Carbon County EMA and the Schuylkill County Office of Emergency Management asked that folks do not call 9-1-1 as a test.
“The 911 center is being overwhelmed with people calling as a test,” Carbon EMA noted.
Schuylkill County said to only call 9-1-1 for an emergency, and if callers can’t get through, they should dial 570-628-3792 or 570-462-1991,
Those in Monroe County who are having trouble reaching 9-1-1 should call 570-992-9911. The number will connect callers directly to the Monroe County Control Center and emergency services will dispatched without delay. Monroe residents are urged to only use this alternative number if they are unable to reach 9-1-1.
In Lehigh County, residents can call 610-437-5252. In Northampton County, call 610-759-2200.
