Inspection of rentals in Coaldale begins next week

Rental property inspections will begin next week in Coaldale.

And starting in 2026, all rentals will be inspected annual — instead of once every two years.

Council Vice President Kim Gavornik posed the idea of annual inspections to borough council on Tuesday.

“The reason we did the biyearly is to kind of reward the landlords who do what they’re supposed to do with their properties,” said Councilwoman Angela Krapf.

If the inspection failed, landlords had to get an inspection the next year, she said.

“If it passed, then you would get the two years,” Krapf said.

Gavornik said having some properties on the two-year schedule and others on the annual schedule is confusing.

Going with annual inspections for all properties would be easier, she said.

Council voted in favor of changing to the annual inspection schedule, effective in January.

In an unrelated matter, the borough office will accept cash payments of no more than $10 for moving permits only.

The no-cash policy remains in place for all other payments.
