Water main break affects Palmerton downtown

A water main break in Palmerton has affected several businesses along the borough’s main thoroughfare.

Contacted this morning, borough Manager Autumn Canfield explained the cause of the issue.

“This is regarding a line upgrade project we have been working on,” Canfield said. “An unexpected complication caused the water shut off area to be larger than originally anticipated, affecting certain businesses on Delaware (Avenue).”

Canfield said the upgrade is on Franklin Avenue between Second and Third Street, and assured that notifications have gone out and the matter is being addressed.

“Those affected have been informed,” she said. “It will be resolved as soon as possible.”

Palmerton Pub posted on its Facebook page Wednesday night that the water main repair happening today would prevent them from opening for lunch.

“We are hoping that everything will be back online by 5 p.m. ... fingers crossed,” the post reads. “Our apologies to our faithful lunch customers.”

As a result, Palmerton Pub said it won’t open until today until 5 o’clock.

“This is due to water main repair by the borough,” the post reads. “Hopefully, we will be able to operate by 5 p.m.”
