Tamaqua, JT All-Stars earn wins in PV tourney

Tamaqua powered its way to a pair of wins, while Jim Thorpe battled back with a late rally to remain perfect in tournament play, highlighting a strong day for local teams in the Panther Valley Little League tournaments.

Towamensing-Jim Thorpe

A four-run fifth inning proved to be the difference, as Jim Thorpe pulled away for a 6-5 win over visiting Towamensing.

Trailing 5-2, Jaxon O’Shura sparked the comeback with an RBI double. Daniel Off and Cameron Moyer each added RBI singles, and Jionni Puddu tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

Moyer led the Olympians with a perfect 3-for-3 day and an RBI.

Dillon Welsh, Bryce Baumgardt and Nick Peters all had hits for Towamensing.

Tamaqua-Anthracite

Jakson Perez’s three-run homer highlighted a 12-run first inning, as Tamaqua rolled to a 15-0 victory over Anthracite in the 11/12 tournament.

Tamaqua had four extra-base hits in the first inning, including doubles by both Jackson Faust and Adam Balliet, a triple by Gavin Lutz and Perez’s homer.

Balliet added two doubles, a single, three runs and two RBIs.

Connor Jones had Anthracite’s only hit.

Tamaqua opened the tournament with a come-from-behind 6-4 win over Jim Thorpe.

The team took advantage of 14 walks, including five in the fifth inning that led to three runs.

Gavin D., Camdyn L. (three walks), and Mason K. all drew bases-loaded walks to score George P., Gunnar N., and Sylis S.

Lucas B. and Grady H. had Tamaqua’s two hits.

Jacob M. and Eli K. each had two hits for Jim Thorpe.

Franklin-Towamensing

Blake M. drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning to score Lukas R. with the winning run, as Towamensing edged Franklin Township 6-5.

Lukas R. led off the sixth with a single before Jonathon F. and Reid R. both followed with walks to set up the walk-off.

Lucas S. was 2-for-2 with a single, double and two RBIs.

Grayson Shupp went 3-for-3 with three singles, two runs and an RBI for Franklin Township.

Nazareth-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe’s late-inning heroics weren’t enough, as Nazareth came away with an 11-4 victory in Lehigh Valley Junior Connie Mack action.

Trailing 11-0, Jim Thorpe put together back-to-back scoring innings but couldn’t close the gap.

Lucas Knopf drove in Jim Thorpe’s first run with a fielder’s choice RBI in the sixth, while Dominic Calcano — who singled earlier — came around to score on a wild pitch.

Calcano added an RBI single in the seventh, and Blake Skrimcovsky drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Kade Levan for the Olympians’ final run.

Levan (two singles, a double, two runs) and Calcano (three singles, run, RBI) accounted for more than half of Jim Thorpe’s nine hits.

Pine Grove-LGH Tax & Acct. (Panther Valley)

Chandler Sirbaugh’s inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning highlighted Pine Grove’s 11-2 win over LGH Tax & Acct.

Sirbaugh cleared the bases and circled the diamond after a deep fly to center field, following singles by Brandon Gibson, Ian Brown and Kaiden Umbenhauer.

Sirbaugh finished with two singles, a homer, three runs scored and four RBIs. Umbenhauer had two singles, two walks, three runs and three RBIs.

Gabriel Perilli went 3-for-3 with three singles for LGH, while Kaden Koerbler added two singles and scored both runs.
