July 10, 1956 — After a shaky start, Ed Kostishion settles down to pitch Jim Thorpe to a 4-3 Tri-County League victory over Lansford. Kostishion is touched for three runs in the opening inning, but comes through with eight scoreless frames the rest of the way. Tied at 3-3, Thorpe receives the go-ahead and eventual winning run in the eighth when Johnnie Dugan walks, moves to second on a sacrifice bunt, to third on a stolen base and scores on a balk. The winners receive a 3-for-3 effort and two RBIs from Pete Wernett, while Gmitter adds two hits and a run. For Lansford, hurler Ed Gargula tosses all nine innings and strikes out 11.
