Street sweeping got underway this morning in Lehighton.
Permanent No Parking Signs are posted on First Street and Bankway Street for Wednesday mornings from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m.
While the borough did not have a functioning street sweeper, this area had not been enforced, borough police Chief Troy Abelovsky posted Tuesday evening on the Lehighton Police Department’s Facebook page.
“With the purchase of the new equipment, weekly cleanings are beginning (this) morning,” Abelovsky said. “Officers will be out and issuing warnings for this first week only.”
Abelovsky noted that vehicles found parking in this area beyond July 9, Wednesday mornings from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. are subject to fines/parking tickets being issued.
On Monday, the Lehighton Public Works Department posted orange temporary No Parking Signs, for Wednesday in the following areas: Second Street and Third Street.
That means no parking is permitted on these two streets from 7 a.m. until the signs are removed, Abelovsky said.
As the streets are cleaned, he said the signs will be removed by the Public Works Department. These two streets are enforceable, and the residents were encouraged to move their vehicles Tuesday night to avoid any fines.
