July 9, 1979 — In a move that happens practically overnight, Marian’s Tom Sheehan steps down as Marian’s boys basketball coach and is immediately replaced by former Colt standout Bob Schlosser. The new head coach, a member of the 1970-71 PCIAA state championship team, also accepts a position in the Math Department at Marian. Prior to returning to the Colts, Schlosser was a teacher and assistant coach at Allentown Central Catholic. Sheehan, a Jim Thorpe resident who teaches in Slatington, cites the present gas situation as one reason for stepping down and also says, “I would not leave Marian if I didn’t think Bobby, who is a close friend of mine, could take over and do a capable job.”
