Sosnovik brothers shine for Wilkes
Austin and Stone Sosnovik have a connection on the lacrosse field that makes them a dynamic duo on the offensive end.
The two found plenty of success playing together at Northwestern Lehigh High School. This past spring, they were reunited at the collegiate level, with Stone joining Austin at Wilkes University for his freshman season.
Both started and played in 16 of the Colonels’ 17 games this past season. Austin, a sophomore, led the team in overall scoring with 15 goals and 43 assists for 58 points. Not far behind, Stone finished with 35 points and a team-best 29 goals.
“My success on the field was in major part due to my teammates. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to put up as many points as I did,” Austin said. “Overall, our season was good. We were a really young team this year with not a lot of numbers compared to other teams. We pulled off some good wins, but there were a few more we should have had and hopefully will get next year. Our team now has another year of experience under its belt. We’re looking to be a force to be reckoned with next year.”
Added Stone, “Last season, I stepped in and led the team as a freshman in scoring over 16 games. Personally, I’m proud because stepping into college ball posed a huge challenge, and I embraced it. We finished 4-13 — not the record we wanted — but I felt I grew every week: improving shot selection, understanding our offense, and building confidence. I see my role not just as a goal-scorer but as a facilitator. I recorded six assists from scoring positions, many of which came from finding teammates, especially Austin. My vision allows me to draw defenders and make passes off downhill plays. I focus on transition, feeding cutters, and man-up situations, where I connected for key goals. It’s about balancing on-the-run threats with creating the right looks for the team.”
Austin has enjoyed reuniting with his younger brother on the field — and next season, the duo will add a third familiar face to the lineup.
“Playing with Stone was awesome,” Austin said. “I am so happy that he chose to come to Wilkes and play alongside me for the next couple of years. When we stepped onto the field together for the first time in over a year, it was like we had just played yesterday. It’s such a good feeling knowing he’s on the field. Growing up close and playing multiple sports together, we have a connection that can’t be taught. I know I can always count on him to be on the same page as me. We can read each other’s body language and know exactly what we want to do.”
Austin is even more excited knowing another former Tiger will be joining them next season.
“I’m really excited because we have ‘our other brother,’ when it comes to lacrosse, playing with us again next year at Wilkes. Blaine Snyder, who we’ve played with since NYAA lacrosse, is going to be on the field with us again, which is really exciting. My senior year of high school, the attack line was Blaine, Stone and myself. We also have extremely good chemistry, so I’m really looking forward to stepping on the field with him again for the first time in two years.”
The Sosnoviks won a District 11 Class 2A championship together at Northwestern in 2023. Their time at the school — both on and off the field — helped prepare them for the next chapter.
“My time at Northwestern set the foundation for how my brother and I play lacrosse,” Stone said. “We both give a ton of credit to our high school coaching staff, led by head coach Marcus Janda. He taught us how to be disciplined, respectful and mentally tough.
“At Wilkes, that translates into being coachable and maintaining academics while competing in the Landmark Conference. Recognizing the student-athlete grind has helped me balance film, workouts, study halls and games. That background allowed me to jump into college lacrosse responsibly and confidently. The academic support and structured environment at Wilkes is preparing me to lead and perform right away.”
