Palmerton Community Band to perform Sunday

The Palmerton Community Band will feature student soloists as it performs its Independent Day concert in the Palmerton Borough Park at 7 p.m. Sunday (weather permitting).

The free concert will include patriotic selections based on hymns, songs and marches that were composed to honor and remember those who have supported our country through its history.

It includes selections based on service songs from the branches of the military, hymns from the armed forces, songs from WWI and patriotic songs like “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America.”

The band will also feature student trumpet soloists Zack Himmelwright and Caleb Heist in the Beatles hit “Penny Lane,” and also turn the conductors podium over to college music major Grace Heist, who will lead the Band in “American Red Cross March.”

Since its founding in 1911, the Palmerton Community Band has continued a tradition of public music performances offered free to the community.

This concert is hosted and coordinated by the Bandstand Committee of the Palmerton Concourse Club, with financial support provided for the 2025 concert series by the Harry Brown estate.

Conductor Joseph Plechavy and assistant conductor Mitchell Hourt will share the podium in leading the band during the performance.

Plechavy invites all to join in the concert.

“Sunday’s concert is truly a celebration of America and of those who won and sustained our freedom and our country,” Plechavy said.

Hourt added, “We invite everyone to come out and share in one of this holidays traditions … a community band concert in the park.”

The Palmerton Community Band is composed of musicians from Palmerton and surrounding communities and counties and is open to adults, college and high school students.

As a not-for-profit organization, the band is grateful to our community sponsors for their support.

The concert in the park is sponsored by the Palmerton Concourse Club,
