Letter to the editor: More answers needed for Lansford Pool
Sometimes there is irony in a situation that just makes you think, that is too funny or too incredible to be true. Well, as most everyone knows the Lansford pool was closed in 2015 due to a large water leak. Basically, nothing was done for years.
In 2017, a $250,000 grant was to be applied for using the remaining funds in the pool account for the match. In 2027-18 a Feasibility study was completed with no action taken at that time. A group to raise funds was formed, Friends of Recreation/Pool.
Over the years, this group worked hard and raised thousands of dollars. However, the borough never put any money to speak of into the repair of the facility. WHAT IS IRONIC NOW, over the years NO FUNDS from the borough, but NOW they are paying a contractor to break up, destroy the bottom of the pool.
As it is, and has been for years, holding water. The problem has always been in the skimmer system. A contractor was hired by Friends to do work at the pool, paid out of their funds. No contract with the Friends or the borough. In an attempt to fix the problem, the side of the pool and walkway were torn apart and that is how it remains. That is a disgrace.
I recently did a Right to Know to try to verify the statement made by president of council over the years regarding various aspect of the pool and steps taken to address it.
All my questions were based on information contained in various Times News articles stated by the president. The answer to my RTK, “nothing found.” Except No grants had been applied for.
Also, asked the chair of Lansford Parks and Recreation, who is also treasurer of Friends of Recreation, the amount of funds expended for the failed projects at the pool. Was refused an answer as they are a 501C3 nonprofit group.
Excuse me, the funds were raised for the pool, the pool is borough property, and you cannot answer that question! There are a lot of unanswered questions.
