Lehighton’s Kresge headed to D-11 Hall of Fame

PIAA District 11 has announced its next class of Hall of Fame inductees.

Fourteen individuals have been selected for induction based on their accomplishments at the high school level. Nominations were submitted by member schools, officials’ chapters and media representatives.

The District 11 Hall of Fame ceremony will be held Sunday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. at the Delta Hotel in Breinigsville. Dinner will precede the induction ceremony.

Tickets are $65 and can be purchased by contacting District 11 Chairman Bob Hartman at hartmanb@whitehallcoplay.org. The deadline to purchase tickets is Oct. 1.

Nominations for future classes can be submitted by completing the forms available at www.districtxi.com. The deadline to submit nominations is May 1 of each induction year.

Class of 2025 District 11 Hall of Fame inductees:

Joe Alansky – A standout at Mahanoy Area, Alansky was an all-state basketball player, 1,000-point scorer and two-time Schuylkill League champion. As girls basketball coach from 1984-2003, he led teams to 391 wins, three PIAA titles, nine District 11 titles and 11 league division championships.

Bob Clark – Clark served as Parkland’s head swimming and diving coach from 1989-2004, compiling a 370-36 record. His girls teams won two PIAA titles, 10 district titles and seven league crowns. His boys teams also won 10 district and seven league championships.

Darian Cruz – A Bethlehem Catholic graduate, Cruz was a two-time PIAA wrestling champion and three-time District and Regional champ, compiling 153 wins. At Lehigh University, he was a three-time All-American and the 2017 NCAA champion at 125 pounds. Cruz competed for Puerto Rico in the 2024 Olympics at 57 kilograms.

Bob Hartman – A Whitehall graduate, Hartman was part of the 1989 District 11 football championship team. As head wrestling coach, he mentored Christian Franco, the school’s first individual PIAA champion. As athletic director for 23 years, Hartman oversaw facility upgrades and has served as District 11 chairman for 11 years.

Anita James – A multi-sport standout from Pocono Mountain West, James won 15 gold medals in 16 District 11 track and field events and was part of the 2006 district champion cheerleading team. She earned 10 PIAA track medals, including four during both her junior and senior years.

Tom Kresge – The Lehighton basketball star scored 2,236 points, averaging 21.6 per game. He helped lead the Indians to the 1987 Centennial League and District 11 titles, and was The Morning Call Player of the Year in 1988. He played collegiately at Lafayette.

Gabe Lewullis – A Central Catholic standout, Lewullis was the EPC MVP and Morning Call Player of the Year as a senior, earning all-state honors twice. He was the program’s second all-time leading scorer, and helped the Vikings win four district titles. He was a four-year starter at Princeton University.

Jonathan Linton – A Catasauqua football star, Linton was an eight-time All-Colonial League and five-time all-state selection. He rushed for more than 4,000 yards in high school, then played at the University of North Carolina, where he totaled over 1,000 rushing yards as a senior. He played in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans, scoring nine touchdowns.

Jim Morgans – Morgans won 286 games during his high school football coaching career, capturing 11 league titles, 10 district championships, two PIAA runner-up finishes and two state titles. He coached at Allentown Central Catholic, Salisbury, Freedom and Parkland, and earned multiple Coach of the Year awards.

Sheila O’Donnell – A Central Catholic tennis standout, O’Donnell went 62-0 in regular season singles matches, winning four straight EPC and District 11 titles and never losing a set. She continued her tennis career at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a three-year letterwinner and graduated in three years.

Martin Ondrovic – A PIAA official for 54 years, Ondrovic was a leader on the baseball field and served as PIAA Rules Interpreter and NFHS Rules Book editor. He also officiated football for 43 years and basketball for 37 years. He is a member of multiple halls of fame for officiating.

Kenneth Schneck – The longtime Minersville softball coach posted a 546-103 career record, winning over 84 percent of his games. His teams won six PIAA titles, 13 District 11 crowns, 23 league division titles and five Schuylkill League championships. He earned 10 Republican-Herald Coach of the Year honors. The Miners’ softball field is named in his honor.

Jon Trenge – A Parkland wrestler, Trenge recorded 150 career wins, winning two PIAA titles, three Northeast Regional titles and two district championships. He was a three-time NCAA All-American at Lehigh, finishing as a national runner-up twice and placing fifth at the 2004 Olympic Trials.

Kalista Walters – Walters scored 2,273 points in her four-year basketball career at Bethlehem Catholic, the most in school history for either gender. She led the Hawks to three district titles, and was a three-time all-state first-team pick and three-time league MVP. She went on to play at the University of Pittsburgh.

Ruth Weidman – A longtime head coach at Nativity BVM, Weidman guided the girls basketball program to five district titles and two PIAA championships over a five-year span from 1992-2005. She also served as the school’s softball coach for 17 seasons and golf coach for three. Her 2003 softball team won a district title.
