Dr. Larry Giovacchini, the man hired by the Panther Valley School Board a year ago as high school principal to turn the tide when vandalism, responsible for thousands of dollars in property destruction, was virtually running rampant at the school, resigned his post in a surprise move made public yesterday.

Dr. Giovacchini, a stern disciplinarian, came to Panther Valley last year at a time when vandalism at the high school during school hours reached a point where the board was giving strong consideration to employing monitors (security personnel).

In a departing message, he told the board “many positive improvements” have been made, adding, “The pattern for good behavior has been set.”

Dr. Giovacchini said he has accepted a position near his hometown in the Johnstown-Altoona area.
