Weatherly praises LVHN doctors for service
Weatherly Borough Council on Monday recognized two Lehigh Valley Health Network doctors for their work in the community for 32 years.
Mayor Norman Richie presented proclamations to Doctors Emilia and Adrian Secheresiu for their service and dedication to the community, first in private practice and then as LVHN physicians.
Both doctors are known for their compassion, respect and deep caring for their patients and exceptional medical skills, Richie said.
Both began as primary care doctors at Hazleton-St. Joseph Hospital satellite locations with Dr. Adrian Secheresiu in Freeland and Dr. Emilia Secheresiu in Weatherly in 1993.
They then opened their own practice, A&E Medical, together in the borough in 1998, and joined LVHN in 2016.
“We thank you very much,” Dr. Emilia Secheresiu told those gathered. “It’s really an honor to be here and serve this community for over 30 years.
“The town of Weatherly gave us trust, respect, support, friendship and really made this place a home away from home,” she said. “I wish you all health, but I promise we have you in our hearts and in our memories.”
Thursday was their last day serving the community, as they both retire. They may see patients in the future in a fill-in capacity, if needed.
In other business, council approved placing two items for sale on Municibid and moved forward with changing Butz Street to one-way.
The borough will advertise the ordinance change making Butz Street one-way north toward North Main Street. Council plans to formally adopt the change next month.
Councilman Michael Bellizia also made a point to address concerns about the effectiveness of the borough’s code and zoning officer, Thomas Breznitsky.
Bellizia looked into the number of citations this year, and found 155 issued in a town of about 1,100 homes.
“I think Tom is doing a great job and I just wanted to say that out loud,” Bellizia said.
