Police: Tamaqua woman had drugs, guns, cash

A Tamaqua woman is free on bail after Tamaqua police found two safes in her bedroom loaded with cocaine, marijuana, drug packaging equipment, guns and more than $21,000 in cash, police said.

Ivette Roman, 55, of the 100 block of Pine Street, is facing charges of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

According to police, officers received a drug complaint at 7:38 p.m. June 13 from a juvenile who claimed Roman was a “drug dealer” and had a lot of drugs inside her home. When police were speaking to the juvenile, Roman arrived at the scene. Officers told Roman why they were there and she consented to a search of her home. Officers said she escorted them through her residence and opened two safes.

Inside the safes, police said, they found approximately 87.3 grams of cocaine; around 3 pounds of marijuana; $21,049 in cash; a scale and empty bags commonly used to package narcotics; a 9 mm handgun, a .38 revolver; and a .22 rifle.

Roman was arraigned before Tamaqua Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, who set percentage bail at $25,000. She was able to post bail.

A preliminary hearing for Roman is scheduled for July 22 before Bayer.
