Police: Four vehicles in pileup on Interstate 78

Two people had suspected minor injuries after a four-vehicle pileup at 7:54 a.m. June 21 on Interstate 78 in Upper Macungie Township, state police at the Fogelsville barracks said.

Police said Tess A. Spitler, 25, of Orwigsburg, the driver of one of the vehicles, and a 14-year-old girl from Farmingville, New York, a passenger in another vehicle, were transported by personnel from the Cetronia Ambulance Corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Spitler, driving a 2023 Kia westbound at a high rate of speed, was unable to stop for stopped traffic.

The Kia struck the rear of a 2024 Ford F-150 operated by Vernon E. McNeill, 47, of Farmingville, police said. Patricia F. McNeill, 47, and the 14-year-old girl were passengers in the vehicle.

Police said that after the initial crash, the Ford F-150 collided with a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Ralph X. Acone, 66, of Middleboro, Massachusetts, before rolling into the right lane and hitting a 2021 Ford Escape driven by Carmen L. Castagna, 60, of New Ringgold.

Police said the Kia and Ford F-150 were towed from the scene.

Spitler was cited after the pileup, according to police.
