Lions launch club for students 6-11

The Lehighton Lioness Lions Club launched a new group for boys and girls ages 6-11. The Lehighton Cubs will meet one Tuesday a month during the summer, and two Tuesdays a month in the winter.

More information on club meetings can be found on the Lehighton Lioness Lions Club Official Facebook page.

The club will focus on community engagement, arts and crafts, and life skills training like first aid.

Future plans encompass environmental projects and regular community service in collaboration with the Lioness Club.

Sara Massar, an organizer for the Cubs, wants the club to be an opportunity for young girls and boys to grow with Lions International, a group serving Lehighton’s community since 1990.

“We want kids to develop a love for community service and volunteering,” Massar said. “I think it’s great to instill those things when they’re younger.”

Massar said the club fee could start at just $10 a year, holding true to their goal of keeping costs low and affordable for Carbon County families.

Massar also highlighted the importance of these programs in small towns, and hopes for future sponsorships to help the club grow.

“We’re really excited to get it off the ground and we want to keep it affordable because we think that it’s a really good opportunity for smaller kids in town,” Massar said.
