Monroe commissioners to bid bridge work
The Monroe County commissioners anticipate the county’s match for various organizations will increase by about $300,000.
The commissioners reviewed the budgets for the organizations during their meeting on Wednesday morning.
“This means a possible increase of the county share of $306,113,” said John Christy, the chairman of the supervisors. “However, oftentimes that money is taken care of by additional funding by the state.”
The 2025-2026 Fiscal Year Budgets of the following organizations: Children & Youth, $21,682,158; Area Agency on Aging, $3,846,665; Grants Administration Dept., $257,603; State Food Purchase Program, $256,573; Human Service Development Fund, $94,507; Homeless Assistance Program, $50,195; Emergency Solutions Grant 24-26, $290,000; MCTA, $913,758; Career Link, $1,213,626. The total was $28,605,085.
In other business, the commissioners approved a change order with Verdantas for $15,000 due additional right of way, utilities, roadway design and bog turtle mitigation activities at Bridge #12. This bridge is on Metzgar Road in Hamilton Township.
Robert Gress, the chief clerk for Monroe County, said the county plans to seek bids on the project this summer with work starting in the spring 2026.
“This is a bridge replacement,” he said.
Also at the meeting, the commissioners approved the following:
• Proclamations and certificates: Acknowledge the accomplishment of Trent Carollo on earning his Eagle Scout award;
• Area Agency on Aging: Ratify approval of internship agreement with Pennsylvania State University on behalf of its
Penn State Scranton campus to provide practical experience in a variety of degree programs with a term to expire June 6, 2030;
• Advertise several items: a public hearing for East Stroudsburg for input and comment on the Federal Fiscal Year 2023 Community Development Block Grant Program modifications per Redevelopment Authority of Monroe County, 2025 Emergency Solutions Grant request for proposals, 2026-2027 Children and Youth Needs Based Budget, and requests for funding proposals for the Homeless Assistance Program and Human Services Development Fund;
• Add these vendors to the county list of approved vendors: Monroe County Office of the District Attorney — Confidential Counseling Services; and Information Technology Services — Illuminated Integration LLC;
• Information Technology and Services: Modification to RingCentral adding 35 additional local numbers for an increase of $35 per month changing the total monthly charge from $11,531 to $11,566, and;
• Office of Emergency Management: Local Share Account Grant Contract for the period of May 20 to June 30, 2028 for $35,000 to complete the replacement of doors and frames at the Fire Training Grounds Burn Building.
