Youths hooked on Indian Mountain Lake fishing contest

Indian Mountain Lake held its annual Kids Fishing Derby recently.

The event was held at the Fishing Lake, which was stocked, with five stations around the lake to measure the caught fish. Youths were broken down in age groups: 1-6 year olds, 7-11 year olds and 12-15 years.

Prizes were awarded in each age group for the longest fish, shortest, fish and the most fish.

Prizes included fishing rods, fishing gear and gift certificates to local restaurants. If a child did not have a rod, one was provided for them.

Dave Skvoretz, chair of the Fishing and Lakes Committee noted, “It’s important to get kids outdoors. We want them to learn how to fish and enjoy fishing.”

As soon as the starting bell went off the first fish was caught by Chase Daignault, 11.

Kieran Weaber, 15, has swept every category in his age group for several years. Not to disappoint, this year he caught the third biggest fish, measuring 19 inches. The largest fish caught measured 24 inches.

“Worm lady” Pat Wagner distributed the worms to everyone.

Hadleigh Verbos, 3½, seemed to have more fun playing with the worms than fishing.

Pizza was provided by Tony’s in Effort.
