Walnutport Playground head to resign

Walnutport is set to lose the head of its playground association.

Brian Filchner, president of the Walnutport Playground Association, informed borough council last week that he intends to resign from the post after July.

Filchner told borough council that after 21 years, the time has come for him to hand things down.

Several members told Filchner they were sorry to learn of his decision, and wished him well.

Filchner said he began as a coach, and added he’s been president for about the past 15 years.

“It’s been a pleasure to serve the community and the kids,” Filchner said. “It will be missed, but it’s time to move on.”

Filchner added that they have 100 kids who play, and noted it’s in good shape.

“It’s a strong program, one of the largest in the area,” he said. “I hope whoever takes over continues to build on the tradition of Northern Lehigh baseball and softball.”
