Turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the

Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• Amira Hartford, 24, of Picture Rocks, escaped injury when she struck a deer with her vehicle in South Whitehall Township at 11:17 a.m. June 9. Police said Hartford braked when she saw the deer on the roadway, but was unable to avoid striking it. The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed. Hartford declined medical treatment.

• Two people from Rochester, New York, were injured in a one-vehicle crash at 1:15 p.m. June 9 in Washington Township.

Police said that David Day, 72, was traveling north when his vehicle and crossed the grass median into the southbound lanes of the roadway. It hit a ditch and continued north in the southbound lanes into the Lehigh Tunnel, where it struck the left concrete barrier.

Day and his passenger, Donna Day, 78, were taken to Lehigh Valley, Cedar Crest, by personnel from the Palmerton Community Ambulance Association.

• Police said the driver and passengers of a vehicle that crashed in Penn Forest Township at 11:37 a.m. June 7 refused medical treatment.

According to police, Jason Fazzino, 45, of Shavertown, was eastbound near mile marker 81.4. Police said he applied his brakes on the rain-covered highway and lost control. The vehicle hit the median and then came to rest.

Fazzino and his two passengers were not injured, police said, but the vehicle had disabling damage.

Police said Fazzino was cited after the crash.

• An Arizona woman and four of her passengers had minor injuries after her vehicle crashed in Kidder Township at 12:17 p.m. June 7, police said.

Rachel Dumbrique, 40, of Sahuarita, Arizona, was northbound when she lost control on the rain-covered roadway near mile marker 96.8, police said.

The vehicle hit the median, slid, struck an embankment and then rolled over twice before coming to rest on its roof.

Police said all passengers were wearing seat belts or secured in child safety seats.

Dumbrique and her passengers were taken to Geisinger-Wilkes Barre by the Lehighton Ambulance Association.

Police said Dumbrique was cited after the crash.

• A Jim Thorpe woman escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash in Washington Township at 7:19 a.m. June 9, police said.

Julianne Reightler, 27, was traveling south on a rain-covered roadway. She applied the brakes and lost control of the vehicle, which struck the median and a barrier, police said.

Reightler declined medical treatment, police said. The Palmerton Community Ambulance Association assisted at the scene. Reightler’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

• Vincent Cipollone, 44, of Muncy, was not injured when he struck a deer on at 12:22 a.m. June 2 near mile marker 55 in Lower Macungie Township. His vehicle was towed from the scene.

• A Cranberry, New Jersey, man was cited for careless driving after his vehicle crashed at 8:42 p.m. June 8 near mile marker 60 in South Whitehall Township, police said.

Dorababu Akula, 51, was traveling north on a rain-covered highway and applied his brakes, police said. When he did, he lost control and hit a concrete barrier, according to police.

Akula was not injured, police said, but his vehicle was towed from the scene.
