Summit Hill Borough Council

Summit Hill Borough Council conducted the following business this week:

• The council rejected a request by residents in the 100 block of South Chestnut Street to close the block down on July 4 for a potluck with neighbors. The residents agreed not to have illegal fireworks at the event. The council is concerned that allowing the street to be closed would set a precedent.

• The Girl Scouts were given permission to use the training room of the Hilltop Community Center for meetings once a week.

• The council approved a request to allow the Hootenanny Committee host its annual event on June 28 in Ludlow Park. The Hilltop Community Center also can be used.

• The annual festival at St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley will be held July 18-20. This is the 91st festival of the church. There will be no fireworks this year.

• Council member Marlene Basiago said enough money was raised through donations to purchase 33 Christmas lights. She said at least 18 will be installed along the main streets of the borough. The rest are dependent on whether PPL Electric can, before the Christmas season, install attachments that are needed.

• Basiago said some of the playgrounds in the borough are in need of maintenance including mulching, painting and repairs. Some of the pathways are filling with grass,

The volleyball net is torn and it was suggested that it be removed.

In Memorial Park, a wall has a hole and cracks.

Council President David Wargo suggested that a priority list for work be compiled, and the matter will be revisited.
