Local Roundup: Results from June 12

An outstanding pitching performance by Connor Simms led Northern Valley’s Lehigh Valley legion team to a win over Lower Macungie on Thursday.

Northern Valley-Lower Mac

Connor Simms tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Northern Valley to a 2-0 victory over Lower Macungie.

Simms, who allowed three walks and struck out seven, gave up just a third-inning single to Lower Mac’s Cole Geiger.

The Chargers scored a third-inning run on a double play, and added an insurance tally in the seventh on Noah Fitzgerald’s RBI single.

Fitzgerald and Jayden Christman both collected two hits for the winners, while Max George finished with a hit and a run.

Northwest-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe played to its second tie of the season, ending play knotted with Northwest 6-6.

The Olympians collected only two hits in the contest, but benefited from 11 walks.

Thorpe scored four times in the home first, which included six free passes, an RBI single from Jason Nelson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Zachary Fougere.

Fougere had the other hit for the Olympians.

Kade Levan went the distance on the mound for Jim Thorpe. Levan allowed three earned runs and struck out eight.

Franklin Twp-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh ended Franklin Township’s five-game winning streak, using a big third inning to help gain a 12-6 victory.

The winners, who received three hits from Jayden Ney and three RBIs from Lucian Magazzu, scored eight times in the third to turn a 4-3 deficit into a sizable lead.

Jake Albert paced Franklin, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. Brock Atwood added a pair of hits, a run and two RBIs while Owen Moyer chipped in with two hits.

FT’s Aiden McCarroll and Carter Spotts both contributed a hit and a run. Korbin Ahner ended with a hit and an RBI.

Connor Ruth’s RBI single in the sixth inning snapped a tie and eventually led to North Bethlehem’s 5-4 victory over Northern Valley.

The Chargers took a lead in the home fourth when they scored three times. Mason Cudzil and Henry Fitzgerald both work bases-loaded walks, while Giovanni DiCarlo added an RBI single.

After North Bethlehem regained the advantage in the top of the fifth, Northern Valley tied the contest in the home half. Tanner Fronina doubled and eventually crossed home on Mason Malosh’s grounder.

Gabriel Markovitch and Calvin Kulp both finished with a hit and a run for the Chargers.

Late scoring by South Parkland led to a 15-8 victory over host Palmerton.

The winners scored 10 runs over the final three innings to pull out the win.

Treyton Ryan paced South Parkland with three hits, one a double, and five RBIs.

For the Bombers, Hunter Vasquez finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Brady Ivancich added a pair of hits and knocked in a run, while Connor Walterick finished with a hit, a pair of runs and two RBIs. Xavier Ahner also contributed a hit, two runs and an RBI.

Hope’s Collision-Mrs. T’s

Gavin Edmonds finished 4-for-4 and scored four runs to help Hope’s Collision (Tamaqua) roll to a 14-4 victory over Mrs. T’s (Shenandoah).

Edmonds, who had three doubles among his hits, also knocked in a pair of runs.

Gavin Shannon added a pair of doubles, two runs and an RBI, while Bryce Eltringham contributed two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Chayse Smith chipped in with two hits and knocked in two runs, and Troy Hartman finished with a hit and three RBIs.

Jayden Rex pitched all six innings for the winners, allowing three earned runs while striking out eight.
