Driver injured when truck crashes into home
A Lehighton driver was injured and taken into custody after she struck several parked vehicles before crashing through the front of a home in Nesquehoning this week.
Police and fire personnel were called to a home at 470 East Center Street around 9:32 a.m. on Thursday for a report of a crash.
When officials arrived, they observed a Dodge pickup into a house. The residents of the home, which include a couple and their two children, were not home at the time of the crash.
Nesquehoning Police Chief Bradley Hess said the impact from the truck caused significant structural damage to the building.
The driver, identified as Jamie Curtiss, was taken to the hospital for injuries she sustained during the crash and was then taken into custody for suspicion of driving while under the influence, Hess said.
Officials says that Curtiss sideswiped at least three vehicles before crashing into the home.
The house is currently boarded up for safety reasons and the family will be staying with relatives at this time. The family is also being assisted by local agencies.
In addition to Nesquehoning police, the borough fire companies and Lehighton Ambulance also responded to the scene.
Hess said that the case remains open at this time and the department will provide updates as information becomes available; however if residents have any information regarding the incident, they should contract the department at 570-669-9111.
