State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 4:10 p.m. on May 23 on Claremont Avenue (Route 309) in Hometown, Rush Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Donald E. Matz, 81, of Barnesville, was driving a 2024 Subaru Forester and attempted to turn left onto Claremont Avenue, entering the right lane without proper clearance. The Forester was struck by a 2011 Toyota Corolla operated by Angel Luciano, 53, of Boyertown.

Matz was cited after the crash, according to police.

• Jane Paul, 91, of Mahanoy City, had minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 10:55 a.m. on May 25 at the intersection of Route 54 and Mahanoy City Road in Mahanoy Township. Police said she did not require a medical transport from the scene.

The crash occurred when Paul was driving a 2012 Hyundai Veloster southbound and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection, striking a 1996 Jeep Cherokee operated by Camden X. Garcia, 18, of Delano, police said. The Jeep traveled off the roadway and went down an embankment. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Paul was cited. No one was injured in Garcia’s vehicle.

• Police were called to a hit-and-run at 12:40 p.m. on May 15 on East Phillips Street in Coaldale.

They said an unknown vehicle struck a legally parker 2016 Chevrolet Equinox that was unoccupied at the time before fleeing the scene.

• Jesamin Medina-Castro, 41, of Middleport, had suspected minor injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 5:14 p.m. on May 22 on Valley Road, Walker Township.

Police said she was transported to the St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association.

Police said she was driving a 2015 Ford Escape eastbound when a deer entered the path of the vehicle. She swerved to avoid striking the deer and the vehicle left the road, hitting a utility pole.

• Earl L. Greenwood, 59, of Holland Patent, New York, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:42 p.m. on May 27 on Interstate 81 in Delano Township. Police said he was transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency and Rescue Squad to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.

Police said he was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado when he went off the road on a curve and traveled onto the east shoulder where the truck went down an embankment, hitting several trees.

Charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance are pending against Greenwood.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:03 a.m. on May 28 on Summer Valley Road (Route 895) in East Brunswick Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Belinda Morgantini, 46, of West Pittston, was driving a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek that pulled onto Summer Valley Road in front of a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Christian M. Chase, 54 of Mohrsville, resulting in the Silverado striking the Crosstrek. Police said the Crosstrek was towed from the scene, while the Silverado was able to be driven from it.

Morgantini was cited after the crash, according to police.

• James W. Kane, 47, of Barnesville, had suspected minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 7:12 a.m. on May 29 on the Vulcan Hill Road, Mahanoy Township.

Police said he did not require a medical transport from the scene.

They said the crash occurred when Mark Fahad, 58, of Bartonsville, was driving a 2020 Mercedes-Benz westbound and turned into the path of a 2021 Ford Bronco operated by Kane. Police said the Mercedes hit the Bronco, causing it to spin clockwise and strike a PennDOT sign. The Bronco then traveled onto a dirt embankment and rolled onto its passenger side.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Fahad was cited after the crash, according to police.

• A 17-year-old boy from New Ringgold was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 2:50 p.m. on May 30 on Chestnut Street in East Brunswick Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Schuylkill EMS Corps to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg.

Police said he was driving a 2009 Subaru Impreza eastbound when he lost control of the car while rounding a curve. It left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Police said the pole caught fire.

The teen was able to exit the car before the medical transport.

He was cited after the crash, according to police.

• Charles Mims Jr., 44, of New Philadelphia, was involved in a one-vehicle crash at 1:56 a.m. on May 31 on Union Street in Schuylkill Township.

Police said he was driving a 2008 Dodge Charger that traveled off the southbound lane and struck a guide rail.

The car had disabling damage and was towed from the scene, police said.
