Community offers support to veterinarian after fire
A veterinary clinic in Ross Township is closed until further notice after a fire broke out early Thursday morning.
Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Chief Paul Warnick said firefighters responded at 4:15 a.m. to Best Friends Veterinary Clinic at 1112 Old Route 115, Saylorsburg, after it was called in as a commercial structure fire.
“Upon arrival, there was fire coming through the ridge vent of the structure of the roof,” Warnick said. “Most of the fire was all contained in the attic of the structure.”
Warnick said no one was inside the structure at the time, no animals were there, and therefore there were no injuries.
He said firefighters had the incident under control within about an hour.
However, Warnick said the building suffered smoke and water damage all throughout.
Warnick said firefighters were on scene for about three hours.
He said the cause of the fire is unknown, and that a state police fire marshal is investigating.
Warnick said the West End Fire Company, Polk Township Fire Company, and Lehigh Valley Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
Best Friends Veterinary Clinic thanked everyone in a post on their Facebook page Thursday “for the outpouring of love during this very difficult time.
“For those who are not aware, our practice was struck by fire (Thursday) morning and is very badly damaged. We are unable to take any calls at this time and will be closed until further notice.
“Several of our wonderful neighboring practices are offering their services to our clients. We are humbled by the generosity of our community.”
Best Friends Veterinary Clinic asked everyone to be patient and understanding, and to remember that they cannot answer calls or messages until further notice.
Lois Gasparetti of Saylorsburg set up a GoFundMe for Best Friends Veterinary Clinic.
As of noon on Friday, $4,026 of the $50,000 goal had been raised.
