Betty Jane Ackerman, a sales representative for the Silver Furniture Company, Lansford, for the past 20 years, was installed as the newest Lansford Borough Council member, being sworn into office by District Magistrate Irene Hudasky.

Ackerman was elected by the council the previous night to replace Dennis O’Donnell, who resigned just seven weeks after taking office.

B.J., as she is best known, will finish the rest of the term vacated by Jeanette Coury.

Although her new position is her first in public office, she is no stranger to politics and public life, having been active in borough, county and state levels on behalf of Democratic candidates for many years.
