State police at the Hazleton barracks arrested a fugitive, following a traffic stop at 2:11 p.m. May 24 on Route 93, just north of Packer Drive, in Packer Township.
Police said Joseph Junior Lopez-Reyes, 29, of Allentown, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Eric Schrantz of Jim Thorpe and committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, in lieu of $7,500 straight bail.
Police said he was stopped in a 2009 Econoline van for violations of the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code.
Police said he exhibited signs of drug impairment and was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.
Police said a check with the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network revealed Lopez-Reyes was entered as a wanted person on charges of theft by unlawful taking that were filed against him by the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department in Matamoras.
In addition to facing the arrest warrant charges in Pike County, he was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while his operating privilege is suspended or revoked due to a DUI related offense and summary Motor Vehicle Code violations.
Police said a preliminary hearing for Lopez-Reyes is scheduled for June 11 before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly.
