Borger to fill Bowmanstown vacancy

The Bowmanstown Borough Council unanimously voted to appoint Wendy Borger to fill the remainder of a council seat vacated by the May 21 resignation of Councilman Robert Sikorsky.

Borger is a Bowmanstown native and owns Blue Bomber Notary in Palmerton.

In the May primary, she received the most votes for council and will run in the November general election.

If elected, she will continue serving on the council in her own term after Sikorsky’s term expires in January.

Borger was sworn in at the meeting and took her place at the council table.

Loraine Neal announced details for Bowmanstown’s Summer Reading program, hosted by the Palmerton Library. The free events for children will take place at the Pavilion on June 18 and July 16, featuring stories, crafts and possibly games, depending on attendance. For more information, contact the Palmerton Library.

Neal also shared plans for the Bowmanstown Block Party on Saturday, July 12, from 1-9 p.m. at the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company Grove. Admission is free, and children can enjoy complimentary activities, popcorn and hot dogs. According to Neal, the party aims to be low-cost event for families and will include a basket raffle, food and craft vendors, a cornhole tournament and three live bands. Proceeds will benefit sponsoring volunteer organizations, with “those funds coming back to support the community.” Check the “Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected” Facebook page for updates.

Representatives from the Carbon County Planning Commission and the Wildlands Conservancy attended the meeting to offer support for utilizing the Open Space Grant, which passed on the 2023 ballot. A workshop will be held over the summer to help local municipalities understand how to best use the grant funds for preserving farmland and forests.
