Trinity Happenings

First Saturday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. 3rd St., Lehighton begins at 4 p.m. Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 9:30 a.m. and includes the Rite of Conformation for three teens. Kathy Long, Licensed Lay Minister, presides. Wear a red clothing item as it’s the color of the day.

A reception in honor of the confirmands follows in Luther Hall after Sunday worship concludes.

Church initiatives:

The Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays (and third Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting. Residents who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

The Trinity Thrift Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Household goods and clothing donations will be accepted during store hours. There is a five bag limit. Use door 2 to bring clothing inside.

BECC

Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 222 North St., Lehighton, will host Sunday Morning Worship at 10:45 a.m.

• Sunday: 9:30 a.m. Sunday school.

• Tuesday: 6:30 p.m. church council

• Thursday: Men’s Bible Study, 5 a.m.; Second Blessing Free Clothing Ministry, 6-7:30 p.m.

St. John’s

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning, 826 Mahoning Dr. W., Lehighton will hold worship service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. It is a Sanctuary Service with Holy Communion and Confirmation Day.

Council Meeting: 6:30 p.m. June 9 in Fellowship Hall.

Father’s Day breakfast: 9-10 a.m. June 15 in Fellowship Hall.

Grief support: 6 p.m. June 16.

Community Cupboard: Dinkey Memorial Church in Ashfield has a food cupboard available to those in need who are members of Dinkey Memorial and St. John’s or residents of East Penn Township. The distribution is the third Thursday of every month from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Dinkey’s Social Room. For more information, speak with Pastor Tony.

Vacation Bible School: June 23-25, 6-8 p.m. at Dinkey Memorial, Ashfield and St. John’s, Mahoning Lutheran Church. The two churches are cohosting the event. From preschool to adults there will be something for everyone. Register by calling Dinkey’s office at 610-377-4242 by June 13. Please bring a blue T-shirt that can be stenciled.

Smith Scholarship: The church is now accepting applications for the Smith Scholarship Fund. St. John’s has been blessed with donations to assist members who will be attending college/trade schools. To apply, please write a one-page letter telling the committee where you plan to attend school, what type of degree you are working towards and how you will use the scholarship money. This is not a one-time scholarship. If you have received scholarship money in the past, you may apply again. A deadline in June will be announced, but you may start sending your information in now. Attention graduates: If you graduated in December 2024 or will be graduating May-August 2025, the church is asking you to contact Anne S. in the church office by emailing stjohns@ptd.net. Include your name, address, name of high school, trade school, college, etc., where you will/have completed your diploma or degree, the type of degree and the plans that you have for the future.

Ben Salem UCC

Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton, Summer Worship schedule has started. It includes a 9 a.m. worship service. This will continue until Sept. 7.

• Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Senior Choir Practice

• Thursday at 6:45 p.m., Handbell Choir Practice; 6-9 p.m. Men’s Bible study, open to men age 18 and up.

Upcoming: Vacation Bible School will be held from June 16-20 from 6-8 p.m.

Fundraiser events:

• Strawberry Social: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. June 15. Event includes a bake sale, quilt and basket raffles and music by Daybreak and Lost & Found.

Christ Evangelical

Christ Evangelical Free Church, 2420 Blakeslee Blvd., Dr., West in Lehighton holds worship service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Ministries during the week:

Sister Chix, a support group for widows and divorced women, is held the last Sunday of each month at noon. Bring a lunch, but dessert will be provided. To attend, call 570-386-4547. Enter through the lower parking lot entrance.

ESL classes are held at 6:30 p.m. every Monday. To register, call the church office. Enter through the upper parking lot.

Men’s Bible workshop is the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Lower parking lot entrance.

AWANA — Kids Bible Club is held every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Upper parking lot entrance.

Prayer Shawl Ministry is held the second Saturday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m.

A Food Pantry takes place the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon. Lower parking lot entrance.
