Miller Charm Farm wins Pa. association awards

A Mahoning Valley meat processor and farm took home two awards for its products during a recent state conference.

Miller Charm Farm, 137 St. Peter’s Road, won a reserve champion, or second place, for its hot dogs, and a champion award, or third place, for its jerky.

The honors were turned over during the Pennsylvania Association of Meat Processors convention held recently in State College.

“This is like a kudos,” said co-owner Catherine Miller.

She noted that the contest is highly competitive since folks from Pennsylvania and all along the East Coast enter their products.

“We always go there and we always think, ‘We won’t get excited because, you know, it’s hard to place there,’ ” Miller said. “When we placed, we were jumping up and down.”

Miller said she attended the convention with her husband, Randy. They entered hot dogs, jerky, beef sticks and Hawaiian sliders for judging.

“This is the second year in a row we won for our hot dogs,” she noted.

As for the jerky, the Millers entered a product they call “hillbilly jerky.” It’s made with a blend of paprika, garlic and pepper.

“We have it at the store all the time. It’s one of our customers’ favorites,” Miller said.

In 2023, Miller Charm Farm’s boneless ham won first place.

Miller Charm Farm sells beef from its farm, where the Millers raise their own food and produce hay and grain for the herd. No hormones or antibiotics are used.

The third generation of farmers also offer pork and chicken, deli meats, smoked products, ring bologna, beef sticks, cheeses and jerky. Butchering services are also available.
