Pl. Vly students honored at Decision Day

Pleasant Valley High School held its Decision Day ceremony on May 15 to honor not only athletes and the schools where they have agreed to play a sport, but also students choosing to enter the military and other academic pursuits.

“We wanted to see decision day become more inclusive,” said PVHS Principal Brian Boylan. “The idea to include academics, the military, and other paths came from a desire to recognize and celebrate all students’ accomplishments and future plans, not just athletes. Every postgraduation path takes dedication and hard work, whether it’s college, the armed forces, or entering a trade or workforce. By honoring everyone, we’re reinforcing the message that all of these choices are valuable and worth celebrating.”

The event was organized by Carley Hartzell, a counselor at the high school.

“Our School Counseling Department is a wonderful team of individuals who have sought out opportunities to recognize our students while working together as a department,” Boylan said.

Any student who wanted to share his or her postsecondary plans was welcome to participate in the event held in the gymnasium, Boylan said. Family members, college representatives, military recruiters, and scholarship donors were invited to share in the celebration.
