Letter to the editor: Who will make America great again?
“Our grandparents came here legally.” That holier-than-thou statement is used to justify the hate of, MAEA — Make-America-Evil-Again and their devil’s advocate in the White House.
In 1910, the grandmother I called Baba, came from the old country with her infant son. One day, I would call him Dad. His would be called America’s Greatest Generation. In those days, there were no laws against immigration.
The Tree of Wooden Clogs is on the Vatican’s list of inspirational movies. This award winning masterpiece shows life in the Eastern and Southern Europe of our ancestors. It’s free on the Internet.
Warning!
“Millions of foreigners infected with contagious diseases, a filthy, ignorant humanity are waiting to swarm into the United States.
These Dagos and Hunks are unsightly indigestible lumps floating in a cesspool.
Measures are necessary so this refuse might be deposited in the customary receptacle for such garbage.”
Those words appeared in the 1921 widely circulated Saturday Evening Post.
On May 26, 1926, 20,000 Ku Klux Klansman marched on Broad Street, Hazleton. They were celebrating the Anti-immigration Law of 1925. Anti-movements of every historical period called for the “purification” of America. Everyone is a prisoner of his own prejudices. No one can eliminate prejudices — just recognize them.
Jesus was an “illegal.” Herod murdered thousands of infants to get rid of the King of Kings. Jesus, Mary and Joseph were nonresident “aliens” who fled to Egypt to escape Herod’s ICE enforcers.
The Make-America-Evil cult had more than 50 years to make American great. More often than not, they’re an assortment of the unhappy looking for scapegoats to excuse their own failures. Bigotry makes losers feel superior.
We can’t solve today’s problems with yesterday’s out of date solutions. As in times past, immigrants pour fresh waters into stagnant pools. Today’s “illegals” will make America Great Again!
