Two bus passengers were taken to a hospital following a crash on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, state police at the Pocono barracks said.
Marion C. Bly, 82, of Wilkes-Barre, and Lora L. Ruckle, 79, of Orangeville, passengers on a bus that was involved in a crash at mile marker 69.9 in Washington Township, were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to a hospital for evaluation, police said.
The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. May 22 when a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Ronald Roberts, 72, of Shavertown, was southbound and towing a three-wheel motorcycle on a dolly, police said.
They said Roberts attempted to pass a 2017 Motor Coach bus operated by Ralph G. Sholly, 79, of Auburn, in the left lane when the dolly began to fishtail, causing it to enter the right lane and strike the bus.
The bus drove off the roadway onto the uneven grass shoulder. It had minor damage after the crash.
The Equinox spun sideways onto the shoulder of the road and hit a fence, police said, causing disabling damage.
Roberts and Sholly were uninjured, police said.
