Panther Valley School Board

The Panther Valley School Board approved the following items at its meeting last week:

• Retirement of Janet Branchide, JSHS teacher, effective at the end of the school year.

• Hiring Veronica Vergara as a part-time floater for the cafeteria retroactive to May 5, at the current rate of $16.38 an hour.

• Three-credit courses for Richard Evanko, Joseph Damiano, Sarah-Mary Smith and Holly Skrimcovsky.

• Financial reports, including the tax collector’s report and payment of bills.

• Spring sport workers at $30 an event: Jacqui Morgans, Francine Collevechio, Kirsten Matalavage and Mason George.

• The CCTI proposed operating budget for 2025-26 on a 7-2 vote with directors Michael Alabovitz and Keith Krapf voting against. The budget will save the district about $50,000.

• Extracurricular and support activities for the coming year as follows: Jennifer Squillace-Miller, yearbook adviser and art club; Joseph Ogozalek, band director and audio visual adviser; Jacqui Morgans, Sixth Sense adviser and sixth grade team leader; Meredith Alabovitz, student leadership; Julie Gower, computer tech; R. Evanko, data coordinator; Mary Beth Walker, fourth-grade team leader; Ann Michelle Hours, fifth-grade team leader; Melissa Wickersham, mentor; and M. Wickersham, R. Evanko, K. Matalavage, Mark Lavine, detention monitors.

• Staff for summer kindergarten: Jill Horn, Tina Frets, Heather Wagner, Tonya Drum, Melissa Gilbert, Elizabeth Horherchack, Rebecca Chuma, Christina Helmer and Lisa Maccalush.

• Elementary extracurricular and support activities staff: Diane Buchman, Kara Krajnak, detention monitors and mentors; K. Krajnak, school tech and first grade level rep.; T. Frets, kindergarten grade level rep.; Victoria Yazwinsky, second grade level rep., and D. Buchman, third-grade level rep.

• Volunteers for 2024-25: Victoria and Jeremy Benack, Amanda Yusella, Angelina Romito, Jennifer Wheelis and John Leinthall.

• Permanent expulsion of student No. 102942.

• Extended school year staff from July 1 to July 24 for three to four days per week at current rate: teachers: Jennifer Schlegel, Casey Hedash, Taylor Craigle; paraprofessionals: Deb Schaller, Kristen Sommers, Deb Nevenglosky, Rebecca Chuma, Carly Romankow, Deb Rohlfing, Kim Kwaak, Angela Buckles and Kathy Santore.

• Second reading of policies as follows: organization, non-discrimination qualified students with disabilities; discipline of students with disabilities, behavior support, eligibility of nonresident students, pregnant/parenting/married students, threat assessment, hazing, bullying/cyberbullying, dating violence, emotional opportunity for military children, employment contract/board resolution, educator misconduct, tuition income, school security personnel, opening exercises/moment of silence/flag displays; opioid antagonist, and maintaining professional adult/student boundaries.

• First reading of policies on: conduct/disciplinary procedures; freedom of speech by employees; service animals in schools, discrimination/harassment affecting students; and discrimination/harassment affecting staff.

The board will meet next on June 18 at 7 p.m. The 2025-26 budget will be up for final approval.
