GoFundMe started for West Penn Twp. family

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started for a West Penn Township man’s family after he was struck by an excavator Wednesday morning in Weisenberg Township.

Steven M. Gill, 36, was pronounced dead Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.

An autopsy was completed Thursday, and the cause of death was blunt force injuries.

The manner of death is accidental.

Arye Pulli of Nazareth organized the fundraiser on behalf of Tara Gill, the wife of Steven Gill.

As of 8:30 p.m. Friday, $16,565 of the $18,000 goal had been raised.

Pulli said that Gill’s wife and children’s lives were changed forever when Gill, a dedicated provider, was killed.

“Steven’s sudden death has left Tara and their three children — Jordon (12), Faith (10) and Magnolia (3) — heartbroken and facing a long, difficult road ahead,” Pulli said. “Steven was the sole provider for their family, working hard each day so Tara could stay home to care for Magnolia, their youngest daughter, who was born with special needs and requires full-time attention and specialized care.

“Now, Tara is left grieving the love of her life, while navigating the unimaginable challenge of raising three children without a current source of income.”

Pulli encouraged any donation.

“Please consider donating today to help Tara, Jordon, Faith and Magnolia as they begin to rebuild their lives,” he said. “Whether it’s $1, $100, or simply sharing this fundraiser, your support will bring relief, stability and hope to a family that has lost everything.”

State police from the Fogelsville barracks were dispatched to the 3700 block of Spring Road around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday.

An excavator rotated with a tree in the machine and struck the victim, police said.

Gill was transported by EMS to the hospital, where he died.

The coroner’s office and police are investigating.
