Bears’ girls lacrosse rolls past DelVal

And the beat goes on.

Following Pleasant Valley’s fourth straight Eastern Pennsylvania Conference title, and their second consecutive District 11 3A championship, the girls’ lacrosse team will march into the state tournament after a convincing, sub-regional qualifier victory over Delaware Valley, 22-3, in a game played Friday afternoon.

In its last five postseason games, Pleasant Valley has outscored its opponents by a 92-22 margin, and Friday was another display of total dominance.

After Olivia Iandoli opened the scoring two minutes into the game, teammate Devon Bush — who found the back of the net eight times — made it 2-0. Delaware Valley’s Ava Kraszewski’s goal with 7:30 left in the first period got the Warriors within one.

The well-oiled Bears’ offensive machine then scored 15 unanswered goals to send the game into an early mercy rule. Scoring during the onslaught came from Bush, Morgan Ryals, Iandoli, Rylee Rath, Evelyn VanDerheyden, Brielle Halamar and Samantha Miller.

Ahead 14-1 at the half, PV continued its scoring spree until DV’s Savannah Liz tallied her team’s second goal with 2:30 left in the third period.

“We weren’t able to see any film on them,” said Bears head coach Toni Bush, “so we just played our game with ball movement on offense, and our defense, which has certainly been a huge strength for us all season long.”

With so many non-competitive recent wins, Bush was asked if that was a concern moving forward where they will expect to see stronger competition.

“It’s 100-percent a concern,” she said. “Teams from District 1 will be a different kind of a beast. They are super competitive. We’ll have to keep that in our mindset and play at a higher level. The intensity will be much stronger than what we have faced much of this season.”

The Bears shot 32 times in their win over the Warriors, who only managed eight shots on goal. PV goalie Abygail Borger had seven saves and Del Val’s Jaida Palacios stopped four.

SPIRITUAL LEADER … During their home games, Native American Don Wild Eagle Wuebber, who also works as a security guard for Pleasant Valley, helps rally the team with his Eagle Clan words of wisdom.

UP NEXT … The Bears will host the loser of the District 1 Conestoga-Upper Dauphin game on June 3 at a time yet to be determined.
