Bids to be sought for Chestnuthill projects

Several projects were approved to go out for bids during the Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday.

The Merwinsburg Hotel/Trailhead Development project, supported by a $313,000 grant, and the pickleball courts and ADA-compliant restrooms project, funded by a $134,000 grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, will be put out for bids.

Additionally, repaving of the American Legion parking lot — backed by a $225,000 Local Share Account grant — and paving at the Emergency Services Facility on Route 715 and Route 209, which received a $200,000 grant, will also go out for bids.

A separate paving project for various township roads will be re-bid after the lowest bidder withdrew due to a clerical error.

Three quotes were received for landscaping and snow removal at the Emergency Services Facility.

The contract was awarded to Big League Landscape at a cost of $18,000.

The contract includes parameters for the level of grass cutting and snow removal required.

The West End Fire Company reported 43 calls in April and 179 so far in 2025.

Supervisors also approved the hiring of three summer camp counselors, a head counselor and a camp director.

A student from Lafayette College was approved to intern with the Parks and Recreation Department for an eight-week period.

Under new business, the board approved an agreement with the Pleasant Valley School District to have school personnel close the park gate at 10 p.m. nightly. The township will reopen the gate each morning.

The decision follows ongoing issues with vandalism when the park is left open overnight.

Supervisors granted conditional approval to Keystone Construction Engineers for The Barns at Shallow Creek project.

An open house for the new Emergency Services Facility is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday

“We’re hoping to see the general public so they can see what the facility offers,” said Township Manager David Albright.
