Carbon Animal Shelter replaced kennel doors

The Carbon County Animal Shelter is replacing doors on its kennels, making it safer for the dogs in its care.

The new doors replace chain-link fence closures that allowed dogs to climb or bite on fencing, according to Tom Connors, shelter director.

They’re also easier to clean for the staff, he said.

The shelter purchased the kennel doors with funds from its annual yard sale and donations from people, Connors said. Carbon County maintenance staff installed the doors.

“We think it’s a big asset to the shelter,” Connors said. “It’s fantastic for the dogs. It’s much safer for them, and I think it gives them a more pleasant environment.”

The cost of the new kennel doors was about $10,000, he said, but it was a good investment.

The animal shelter is located at 63 Broad St. in Nesquehoning. Hours at the facility are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors are welcome after 10 a.m., but should call 570-325-4828 first to ensure staff is available.
