Walnutport praises first responders for rescue efforts
Several emergency first responders have been recognized for their rescue efforts involving a cardiac arrest with CPR in progress.
Borough police Chief Jason Nothstein presented the emergency first responders with certificates of appreciation at Thursday’s borough council meeting.
Nothstein said that at 1:48 p.m. on April 12, Walnutport Police Department, Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services and Diamond Fire Company were dispatched to the Riverstone Manor assisted living facility in Walnutport for a cardiac arrest with CPR in progress.
He said that upon arrival, Riverstone Manor employees were performing CPR on a man who wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse.
Nothstein said members of the police department and fire department then took over CPR until the two medics arrived and began their lifesaving measures.
He said that through the teamwork of all the well-trained professionals, a pulse was restored to the man, giving him the opportunity to be rushed to the hospital and a chance of survival.
Nothstein added that the man unfortunately died a week and a half later.
Those who received certificates of appreciation were Melissa Sutliff and Abigail Dredge, EMTs, NOVA; Leah Wentz, Keith Kibler and Christopher Hausman, Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport; Deysi Ynoa, administrator, and Julius Walker, employee at Riverstone Manor.
Nothstein also presented certificates of appreciation on behalf of Randy Torres and Robert Hart, paramedics, NOVA, who were not in attendance, to Kristie Wentling, executive director, NOVA.
“We are very fortunate to have these people as first responders in this neighborhood,” Nothstein said.
