Local Roundup: Results from May 8

Palmerton and Marian both ended regular season baseball play with victories on Thursday.

The Blue Bombers defeated Northern Lehigh, while the Colts knocked off Mahanoy Area.

BASEBALL

Palmerton-Northern Lehigh

Jason Carelli went 3-for-5, including a homer, to help Palmerton earn an 8-1 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Carelli, whose three-run bomb in the seventh inning put the game out of reach, also scored two runs.

Luke Matsko and Mason Becker both added two hits, a run and an RBI to the winning cause.

For the Bulldogs, Brayden Buskirk had a hit and a run, while Coy Daubert and Trent Richards accounted for the other Nolehi hits.

Mahanoy Area-Marian

Marian capped its Schuylkill League regular season with a 7-1 victory over visiting Mahanoy Area.

Cole Defrancisco and Jacob Berlanda combined on a one-hitter. Defrancisco earned the win with five strikeouts, no walks and allowed the only hit. Berlanda recorded six strikeouts, one walk and gave up the lone run in relief.

Back-to-back RBI doubles from Alex Diaz and Rocco Griguoli, and an RBI single by Jimmy Cannon keyed a four-run opening inning for the Colts.

Diaz and Noah Bauder added insurance runs in the sixth, as both recorded run-scoring singles.

Bauder, Diaz, Griguoli and Jimmy Cannon accounted for all eight of Marian’s hits.

Tri Valley-Tamaqua

Thursday’s Schuylkill Baseball League Division 1 game between host Tamaqua and Tri-Valley was suspended due to heavy rains with two outs in the home fourth.

The game was scoreless and will be resumed Saturday morning at 11. The game has been moved to North Schuylkill High School, where the site has turf in case of more rain.

Tamaqua has clinched the Division 1 title, while Schuylkill Haven has won the Division 2 title. Both teams have earned a bye into the league semifinals, which will be held on Tuesday. The quarterfinals will be played Monday.

All Schuylkill League playoff game will be played at Stump Field in Pine Grove.

SOFTBALL

Panther Valley-Pine Grove

Pine Grove closed the regular season on a good note, as the Cardinals blanked Panther Valley 15-0.

Jamie Dinger, Cheryl Clark and Meadow Unibenhauer combined for a four-inning perfect game, as Dinger earned the pitching win with three strikeouts and no walks.

Ashley Zimmer was 4-for-4 at the plate for the winners, as she finished with three doubles, a single, three runs scored and four RBIs.

Pine Grove 652 2 - 15 8 1

Prudente, Goida (2) and McQuillen; Dinger, Clark (3), Umbrenhauer (4) and Bohr. W - Dinger. L - Prudente.

Palmerton-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh gained a 13-5 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

BOYS LACROSSE

So. Lehigh-Northwestern

Four different players scored as Northwestern posted a 5-2 win over visiting Southern Lehigh.

Tyler Kaas registered multiple goals for the Tigers, while Kendall Wikert, Logan Uricchio and Braydon Uricchio all added single scores.

Kaas, Wikert and Logan Uricchio also posted assists.
