Club hosting 14th edition of its Youth Fishing Day

The Pohopoco Rod and Gun Club will host its 14th annual Youth Fishing Day on Saturday for any Carbon County youth age 15 and younger.

There is no fee to enter.

The club asks that parents/caregivers accompanying their youngster and have them register so they can receive a free gift and a ticket for a free “doggie” and a drink.

The event is held at the Phifer Ice Dam complex on Main Road (East Weissport) and starts at 8 a.m.

Goals of the Pohopoco Rod and Gun Club are to encourage children to get more involved in the outdoor activities that our community has to offer. In doing so, the club also hopes to bolster family involvement in those activities.

Hundreds of trout will be available to catch, and successful anglers can keep their catch or practice catch and release, which is becoming much more common today.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase as well.

The Pohopoco Rod and Gun Club has been existence since 1956, with its origins in the Big Creek Valley prior to the construction of Beltzville Reservoir. Stop by the refreshment and registration areas and speak to club members to learn more about the organization and its local fish stocking programs.

The ice dams will be closed to all adult fishing until June 2, so bring your youngster to enjoy fishing even after the event winds down at noon.
