JT baseball also knocks off Nolehi

Marian won in both baseball and softball on Saturday, while Jim Thorpe picked up a key win over Northern Lehigh in baseball action.

BASEBALL

Marian-Executive Education

Jimmy Cannon drove in five runs on three hits to help Marian record an 11-7 non-league victory over Executive Education.

Noah Bauder, Rocco Griguoli, Cole Jordan and Cole Defrancisco each collected two hits for the Colts in their 14-hit attack.

Defrancsico allowed four unearned runs and fanned five over 3 1/3 innings, while Chase Grier also struck out five over the final 3 2/3 innings.

Executive Education scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, before the Raptors’ rally ended.

Jim Thorpe-Northern Lehigh

Jim Thorpe built a huge lead, and then hung on to gain a 10-7 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Tanner MoDavis finished 4-for-4 with a double, knocked in three runs and scored twice for the Olympians, who jumped ahead 10-0 on the strength of two five-run innings.

Kaden Hess added a pair of hits, one a double, and two RBIs for the winners, while Brody Schrantz contributed a pair of hits and two runs. Michael Antignani also chipped in with a double and two RBIs.

Thorpe has won three straight, and four of its last five games.

For the Bulldogs, Parker Schaffer had three hits. Conner Simms ended with two hits and an RBI, while Braedon Dougherty and Trent Richards both collected a hit and two RBIs.

Lehighton-Bangor

Bangor held off a late Lehighton surge for a 9-6 Colonial League victory, sending the Indians to their eighth-straight defeat.

The Slaters opened up the game with a five-run fifth, before Lehighton came back with four runs in top of the sixth.

Aidan Albert hit a two-run homer and Jayse Lawrence plated a pair of runs, while Cole Dietz and Derek Behler each finished with two hits.

Stroudsburg

Pleasant Valley outhit Stroudsburg, but the Bears still dropped a 6-3 EPC contest.

Cameron King had two hits and two RBIs for PV, which finished with eight hits to the Mounties six, while Braydon Green added two hits and a pair of runs.

The Bears tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, but Stroudsburg countered with three in the bottom half on RBI hits from Anthony Knight and Damian Budhai, along with a passed ball.

Paul Maccarrone struck out six in six innings to earn the win.

Executive Education

Malina Letcher went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Marian to a 21-2 non-league rout of Executive Education.

Hailey Treskolasky knocked in four runs — three on an inside-the-park homer — and scored three runs, while Gracie Sendatch drove in three to lead the Fillies, who won for the fifth time in their last seven games and inched closer to a playoff spot. Marian also took advantage of seven Executive errors.

Kayla Birrer allowed three hits and struck out five in the shortened three-inning contest to pick up the victory.

Lehighton-Bangor

Lehighton jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Bangor erupted for 12 unanswered runs and went on to post a 15-4 Colonial League win.

The host Slaters closed the gap to 4-3 after two innings, and then closed out the game over the next two frames.

Marissa Siu had two hits and three RBIs for Bangor, which benefited from six Lehighton errors.

Amber Yeakel, Ava Trach, and Morgan Myers each had RBI singles for Lehighton.

Blue Jay Classic

Tamaqua’s Samantha Plasha posted a first place and a third at the Blue Jay Classic at Central Columbia on Friday.

Plasha won the high jump by clearing 4-10, and also went over 10-0 in the pole vault to garner third.

The Blue Raiders also received a top-3 performance from Anthony Marchetti, who took third in the 3200 with a time of 10:34.43.

Tamaqua athletes finishing fourth included Madelyn Schaefer (800) and Katelynn Fredericks (300 hurdles).
