Local Roundup: Results from April 30

Jim Thorpe and Northern Lehigh each earned Colonial League baseball victories on Wednesday, with the Olympians halting Northwestern’s four-game win streak, and the Bulldogs rallying for a late comeback over Lehighton.

Elseehere, the Northwestern softball team extended its winning streak to 17 games with another dominant performance.

BASEBALL

Northwestern-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe snapped Northwestern’s four-game winning streak with a 7-4 Colonial League upset at home.

Nikolas Schwartz went 4-for-4 with four singles and a run scored to lead the Olympians. Teammate Noah Pastor added three singles, a run scored and an RBI.

Cayden Fitch recorded three of the Tigers’ four hits, finishing with three singles, a run and two RBIs. Eli Zimmerman added a double and scored twice in the loss.

Northern Lehigh-Lehighton

A seven-run seventh inning lifted Northern Lehigh to a 10-3 Colonial League comeback win over Lehighton.

The Indians led 3-0 heading into the fifth, but the Bulldogs tied it on a two-run single from Braedon Daugherty. In the seventh, Daugherty delivered again with a two-run double to give Northern Lehigh the lead. Coy Daubert added a two-run double to cap the scoring.

Cole Dietz had two singles and scored a run to lead the Indians.

Nativity-Panther Valley

Nick Wagner and Ryan Grabowski combined on a one-hitter to lead Nativity to a 5-0 win over Panther Valley.

Wagner worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, striking out seven, and walking four to earn the win. Grabowski recorded the final out.

Stephen Karnich led the Hilltoppers with three singles and two runs scored. Logan Fisher had Panther Valley’s lone hit — a single to center in the fourth inning.

Northwestern-Jim Thorpe

Seven different players scored multiple runs as Northwestern rolled to a 21-0 Colonial League win over Jim Thorpe.

Shelby Mittman had two singles, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs. Abby Dunstan reached base all four times, scoring a team-best three runs while collecting a single, three walks and an RBI.

Lizzie Diehl struck out seven and walked one in four innings to earn the win. Jim Thorpe’s lone hit was a single to left in the first inning by Mara Levins.
