Second annual Airing of the Quilts set for May 3
Downtown Palmerton is about to be adorned in a sea of covers.
Over 500 handmade quilts will be displayed throughout as part of the second annual The Airing of the Quilts in Palmerton.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Palmerton and at Palmerton Area High School.
Cindy Mengel-Smith, president for The Airing of the Quilts, said the event promises to feature talented artisans, crafters, and vendors.
“It’s to make people aware of what a great little town Palmerton is, with the restaurants, the shops,” Mengel-Smith said. “And show off our quilting talents to promote the art of quilting.”
There will be live entertainment and vendors in the borough park, quilt displays at local churches, and a scavenger hunt for valuable prizes.
Featured entertainment will include singer/songwriter Jeni Hackett, musician Mark Hannig, ZOW Jr. Singers, and the Fourth Street Dixieland Jazz Band
A quilt show with artisans, crafters, and vendors will be held at the Palmerton High School gymnasium. There is free parking at the high school with shuttle bus to the venues.
