Members of Boy Scout Troop 87, Weissport, completed a community service project on Saturday, cleaning up the Bunker Hill Cemetery.
Fourteen scouts, under the direction of Scoutmaster Donald Heckman, reported to do the work.
Bunker Hill is one of the oldest cemeteries in the area. Many of its tombstones bear dates in the late 1800s.
The scouts cut grass, pulled weeds, straightened out gravemarkers and put back in place tombstones that had been knocked over due to the elements. Heckman reported many veterans are buried on Bunker Hill and the scouts’ mission is to have the cemetery spruced up in time for Memorial Day.
