Local Roundup: Results from April 29
Tamaqua’s baseball and softball teams both posted key Schuylkill League wins over Blue Mountain on Tuesday.
The Blue Raider baseball squad remained in first place in Division 1 after crushing the Eagles, while Tamaqua’s softball club downed Blue Mountain for the second day in a row to tie the Eagles for the final wild card spot in the division.
BASEBALL
Tamaqua-Blue Mountain
Cooper Ansbach blasted two home runs and finished with three hits and four RBIs to help Tamaqua topple Blue Mountain, 11-0, notching its eighth-straight victory.
Tamaqua jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning when Mason Ligenza belted a solo homer and Maximus Najarro, who had two hits, cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Ansbach hit a solo homer in the second, and later smacked a three-run shot in the sixth.
Ligenza went the distance on the mound, twirling a three-hitter and fanning nine.

Lehighton-Palmerton
Greyson Ahner’s two-run single in the sixth inning pushed Palmerton to its fifth straight victory in a 9-5 Colonial League win over Lehighton.
Ahner knocked in four runs, Jason Carelli plated a pair of runs, and Luke Matsko rapped three hits while A.J. Borger added two for the Blue Bombers.
Brady Reph threw five innings and picked up the victory, and Borger allowed three hits over the final two innings.
Jayse Lawrence and Aiden Solt each had a pair of hits for Lehighton.

Bangor-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and the Olympians held off a late Bangor rally for an 11-7 Colonial League victory.
Nikolas Schwartz helped his own cause with two hits and four RBIs. Schwartz struck out seven and allowed three runs and four hits over six innings. Noah Pastor recorded two outs in the seventh before Nathan Frantz got the final out for the save after Bangor scored four runs in the top of the seventh.
Cole Lazorick added three hits and scored three runs for the Olympians.

Pleasant Valley-PM West
Braydon Green had three hits and knocked in five runs as Pleasant Valley outscored Pocono Mountain West by a 20-11 score in EPC action.
The Bears, who scored in every inning but one, also received three hits from Kole Henry, G. Bates and Ty Borger. Henry scored three times and had two RBIs, as did Bates. Borger also knocked in a pair of runs.
Cameron King contributed two hits and four RBIs for PV, which scored 11 times over the final two innings. Jacob George and Owen Walters both added two hits and three runs.

Northern Lehigh-Hamburg
Hamburg erupted for eight runs in the middle innings and went on to a 12-8 none-league victory over Northern Lehigh.
The Hawks took the lead for good when they scored five runs in the fourth, and padded their lead with three in the fifth. Tyler Shuey went 4-for-4 with four RBIs to pace their 17-hit attack.
Parker Schaffer led the Bulldogs with three hits and three RBIs, while B Dougherty added a pair of hits.

SOFTBALL
Blue Mountain-Tamaqua
In a tight back-and-forth affair, Tamaqua came from behind in the seventh to walk off Blue Mountain with a 4-3 Schuylkill League victory.
The Raiders opened the scoring in the first with RBIs from Ceanna Gormley and Leah Crowley, but the Eagles tied the score 2-2 in the third thanks to a two-run double by Emmerson Frie.
An RBI single from Addyson Fishburn allowed the Eagles to take a 3-2 lead in the seventh. However, in the bottom half, Kolbe Robb tied the game and Crowley won the game for the Raiders with RBI singles.
Crowley had three hits for the winners, while Robb and Nico Conahan both had two.

Pottsville-Panther Valley
Peyton Eckert struck out four and only allowed two runs on six hits to lead Pottsville to a 7-2 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.
After the Panthers took a 2-1 lead in the third, the Tide evened the score in the fifth on an RBI triple from Aubrey Scanlan followed by a four-run sixth to take the lead. Jo Barnhart produced a two-run double, while Jes Siminitus added another run on an RBI single.
For PV, Kyla McQuillen finished with a single, double and a run.

Payton Frantz went 2-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs scored to help lead Minersville to a 21-1 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.
Frantz was one of 10 Battlin’ Miners to produce offensively, including two-RBI performances from Grace Sterner, Isabella Rizzardi, and Sara McGrath.
Abby Weston had a hit and a run for the Wreckers, while Rachel Rosenlund collected a hit and an RBI.

Palmerton scored eight runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 14-4 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.
Makayla Pengelly and Grace Scheinder each went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs. Schneider also scored three runs.
The winners also received a hit and three runs from Mackenzie Ferber.
For the Indians, Amber Yeakel had a pair of hits and two RBIs while Brynn Mriss added two hits.

Northwestern-Catasauqua
Nine different Northwestern hitters knocked in runs for Northwestern as part of a dominating 25-2 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.
Anna Seyler had three hits and three runs for the Tigers, while Avery Seyler finished with a pair of hits and four RBIs.
The winners, still undefeated in the league received a three-run homer from Abby Dunstan. E Bressi contributed two hits, four runs and two RBIs, while A Reichard collected two doubles, three runs and two RBIs.

Pleasant Valley-PM West
Pleasant Valley scored five runs in the first inning and three in the second, which led to a 13-3 EPC victory over Pocono Mountain West.
The win clinched a district playoff berth for the Bears.
Jovie Valenzuela went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs for the Bears, while E DePalma added three hits and three runs. Lydia Borger also contributed three RBIs and two runs scored with her 2-for-3 showing.
PV also received a pair of hits from both Kailyn Getz and Maddie Abbatiello. Getz was the winning pitcher, striking out 11.

Pleasant Valley ended Easton’s five-game win streak, as the Bears rolled to a 16-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.
Devon Bush sparked PV with five goals and three assists, while Rylee Rath chipped in with four goals and four assists.
PV keeper Abby Borger registered eight saves.
