A 10-year-old girl from Lehighton was struck by a car while riding a bicycle on Monday at the intersection of Ashley and Savannah lanes in East Penn Township.
State police at the Lehighton barracks said the girl was transferred by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
They said the incident occurred at 4:51 p.m. when the girl and a 2012 Hyundai Elantra driven by Sophia R. Walker, 20, of Lehighton, were both stopped at stop signs. They said the girl proceeded straight as the Elantra proceeded to turn left, striking the girl on the bicycle at a slow speed and knocking her off of it. Police said the collision was due to sun glare and Walker being obstructed by the Elantra’s A-pillar.
