Track roundup: Results from April 22
Northwestern and Lehighton both posted sweeps in Colonial League action on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Jim Thorpe gained a split in its meet as the boys earned a narrow win.
Northwestern-N. Lehigh
Northwestern Lehigh swept Northern Lehigh in a Colonial League meet, with the girls earning a 105-42 win and the boys pulling out an 85-65 victory.
Gavin Nelson posted one of the day’s top marks by clearing 6-10 in the high jump to set an all-time area best and break the school record. Nelson broke the previous school record of 6-8 1/4 set by Mike Wertman in 1991, and broke the previous area best of 6-9 by Tamaqua’s Dave Keich set in 1983.
Ben Moyes powered Northwestern with wins in both the 100 and 200. Benjamin Bachman captured the 400, while Shane Leh won the 110 hurdles. Greyson Wellings added a win in the 1600 and helped the Tigers in the relays.
Carsyn Van Norman led the way for the Tigers’ girls squad with wins in the 100 and 200. Sophia Schaffer took first in the 400 and contributed to the winning 1600 relay team. Megan Fornwalt swept the 100 and 300 hurdles, and Rosalia Nestor added victories in the 1600 and a runner-up finish in the 800. Northwestern also swept all three girls relays and picked up key points in the jumps and pole vault.
Northern Lehigh had several standout showings despite the setback. Cayden Anglin won the 300 hurdles in 41.7 and helped the Bulldogs secure a victory in the 1600 relay (3:48.3). Skyler Loos led the way in the long jump (19-4), and William Slattery (javelin, 151-5) and Landon Moll (shot put, 49-0) both delivered strong efforts in the throws.
Katelynn Barthold had a stellar day for the Bulldogs, winning the 800 in 2:19.5 and the long jump at 15-11. Anna Trelease added wins in the shot put (31-4.5) and javelin (116-5), while Dekota Barthold placed first in the discus (95-7) and was runner-up in the shot. Taylor Everk won the triple jump (30-0.5), and Morgan Smith tied for first in the high jump (5-0).

Catasauqua-Lehighton
Lehighton rolled to a sweep over visiting Catasauqua in Colonial League action. The Indian girls cruised to a 124-25 win, while the boys earned a 95-51 victory.
Brielle Frable had a standout meet for the girls, sweeping the 800, 1600 and 3200. Lilyanna Shapiro won the 200 and 400 and placed second in the 100, while Timara Klotz won the 100 and was runner-up in the 200. Lorah Thomas claimed victories in both the shot put and discus, and Alexandra Feller swept the high and triple jump. Lillian Klotz also picked up wins in both the 100 hurdles and pole vault and was second in the 300 hurdles. Lehighton swept all three relays.
Elijah Pagotto had a big day for the Indians, winning both the 800 (2:13.8) and 3200 (15:07.8), while placing second in the 1600. Kyle Kuznicki captured the 1600 (4:57.4) and finished second in the 800. Owen Eckhart won both the triple jump (40-6) and high jump (5-7), and added a second-place finish in the long jump.
Joe Roth took first in the javelin with a throw of 171-6 and placed in both sprints. Bodie Hawk dominated the throws, winning both the shot put (43-5) and discus (128-8), while Aiden Eckhart won the 400 (53.7) and added a third-place finish in the 200.

Jim Thorpe and Salisbury split a Colonial League meet.
The Olympian boys earned a narrow 76-74 victory behind a strong showing in the field events. Gavin Strohl (shot put, discus) and Adam Kosciolek (javelin, shot put) each won two events to help lead Jim Thorpe, while Kayden Spence added a win in the 200 and anchored the 1600 relay team to a victory. Kolby Cavanaugh (110 and 300 hurdles) and Spencer Gothard (300 hurdles) also added key points.
The Salisbury girls edged Jim Thorpe 79-71. Stacy Bos swept the distance races (800, 1600, 3200) for the Olympians, while Vanessa Sadler picked up wins in the shot put and discus. Isabella Roman added a first-place finish in the javelin. Brooklyn Yuhas won the 400 and contributed in the sprints to lead a balanced effort.

Palmerton-S. Lehigh
Southern Lehigh swept Palmerton in a Colonial League meet, which was also run with Notre Dame and Wilson. The Spartan girls posted a 100.66-49.33 win, while the boys followed with a 106-44 victory.
Nataly Walters and Jake Rutkowitz led the way for the Bombers.
Walters swept the 100 (12.30), long jump (19-3.5) and triple jump (39-1.75), and anchored the winning 400 relay with Claire Thomas, Sarah Sabo and Erin Gombert (49.63). Gombert added a second in the 100 and third in the 200, while Ruby Walters placed second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.
Rutkowitz captured the 110 hurdles (15.07), long jump (21-10) and triple jump (42-4), and was second in the pole vault. Logan Anthony won the shot put (51-10.5), and Ryan Burkett added a win in the discus (173-6) and third in the shot. Trent Ader cleared 6-1 to take first in the high jump.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua
Blue Mountain swept Tamaqua in Schuylkill League action.
The Eagles cruised to a 103-47 win in the boys competition, while the Blue Mountain girls also topped the century mark in a 107-43 triumph.
The Blue Raiders received three individual wins from Samantha Plasha (long jump, high jump, pole vault), while Leah Black added a first in the discus.
Tamaqua boys who registered firsts included Aidan Elston (1600), Jacob Hehn (discus) and Victor Schlosser (triple jump).
