Chestnuthill man concerned about detour damage

A Chestnuthill Township resident spoke during public comment at the board of supervisors meeting this week about road damage from a current detour for the Merwinsburg Road project.

“It shouldn’t be the township’s responsibility to pay to repair these roads,” Jim Serfass said.

Township manager Dave Albright said that the assistant roadmaster had a meeting with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials and it “seemed like a positive meeting.”

Currently, there are counters on the roads. People are using these roads as detours, although it is not the official PennDOT detour.

In other business, an ordinance to amend supervisors’ compensation was approved.

In January, the board authorized advertising an ordinance increasing compensation from $4,125 to $6,915 annually. The new rate is for any supervisor who begins a new term and doesn’t apply to the current board members.
